Review: Fifty Shades Freed
Say what you want about the Fifty Shades franchise, but you have to admit that they know how to get sexy. We recently watched the last installment of the movie series, Fifty Shades Freed.
Overview Of The Movie:
At the end of the last movie, Anastasia and Christian got engaged at his birthday party with an ominous Jack Hyde watching from above and burning a hole through a family photo of the Greys. Fifty Shades Freed starts off with the couple getting married and going on their honeymoon. The whole movie revolves around them getting used to married life as well as handling the whole Jack Hyde situation.
The Steamy Scenes:
As compared to the other movies, this movie was extremely tame. A few sex scenes were present, but overall, it wasn't that exciting. Our favorite of the trilogy remains Fifty Shades Darker when it comes to the steamy factor.
If you've read the book, you know that just about every other page is filled with some sort of sex scene, but this movie left most of those out. The ones they did include are definitely ones you could pull some inspiration from if you're looking to try something new in the bedroom with your significant other, but they lacked the passion from Fifty Shades Darker.
In this movie, Anna takes a little more of a stand against Christian's particular bedroom preferences, and with the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements in full force in Hollywood, it makes sense as to why they'd choose to keep some of the more risky scenes from the book out of the movie.
No one is claiming that this series should win an Oscar (except for maybe their soundtrack, because it did NOT disappoint), but the plot in this movie was significantly better than in other movies. With real risk and drama, they tried to add some substance to this one.
You could tell that they really tried to make Christian different in this movie: more talking, a few compromises, surprising everyone (including us) by singing at the Aspen house...
However, it still wasn't anything to write home about. Just about everyone agrees that the emotional relationship between Anna and Christian isn't something to aspire to in your own relationships, and that leaves a lot of people disappointed in the plot as a whole.
If you're looking for a good romantic movie, you're better off looking at some of the classics.
There is one thing that the Fifty Shades franchise does extremely well with each movie, and that is their soundtracks. This movie is no different, with big names like Sia, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jessie J contributing to the track. Ellie Goudling's "Love Me Like You Do" comes back to take the album full circle.
New voices like The Spencer Lee Band add some spunk and character to the soundtrack, and we were all pleasantly surprised with Jamie Dornan's rendition of "Maybe, I'm Amazed."
If you haven't already downloaded the soundtrack, do it right away. While the movie may not be enough to get your and your SO in the mood, this steamy soundtrack is more than enough.
The romance was lacking, the sex scenes were few, and their relationship is pretty much the definition of unhealthy. BUT the soundtrack is enough to act as your inspiration for your next bedroom adventure.
The series is still definitely at the top of our list of sexiest movies of the 21st century, but this last installment just wasn't our favorite. Stick to reading the books and listening to the soundtrack, and check out some of our favorite Fifty-Shades-Inspired bedroom fun!
